Elle est branchée.

She has connections.
Literally? She is branched. I know you figured that out. But what on earth does it mean to be branched? We are not trees, nor computers, either, for that matter (see my previous post).
If branché means plugged in to electricity, then by extension it also means connected. She knows people. Maybe she knows the right people, that is, the important ones–the useful ones. That could get her places, and if you exercise the “six degrees of separation” game, knowing her could get you places too.
But of course the definition of the right people changes with the fashions. So if you are currently branché(e), you are probably also trendy.
Another word for that is wired, which can also mean many things. In this case, it doesn’t mean she drank too many energy drinks or cups of caffeine. It doesn’t mean that she has all the latest electronic hardware. It means that she is hooked in to the popular people, wears all the latest styles, goes to the “in” places.
And that trendy wardrobe of hers? You can say elle a un look branché.
