I’m inviting you.

This just sounds like an emphatic way to say that I’m the one who’s inviting you, but there’s a little more to it than that.

The minute you apply the verb inviter to someone else, you have also agreed to pick up the tab!

So if someone tosses off a vague proposal such as Tu veux prendre un petit café ? (Want to go get coffee?), you can reply with a flirty Tu m’invites ? More than asking if this is a date, you’re asking Are you buying?
